After the patch this morning, around 10, I was able to get on and play for a few minutes just fine before I logged off (without the socket closing problem).
Now, just 2 and 3 hours later, I can't even log on. Doesn't get passed the login screen, just tells me "LOGGING IN *Authenticating*"
then it goes too
"CONNECTION FAILED *The Socket was closed*"
Ummmm... What the hell?

This website http://eve-offline.net/ Says that tranquility is offline; but when I get on the game, it says there's about 30,000 people online and that the server is up.
Yet I'm getting some weird socket closing issue?
This wasn't happening this morning...

Even if this was a small/minor issue, which it isn't, shouldn't you guys be trying to do something about it? It seems to be affecting enough people and making others quit.
I don't see a need to spend 15$ a month on nothing... Which I really hate to say, as I really enjoy playing eve. But if the customer support and technical support is as ****ty as EA games, then screw it.

So please ccp fix this sometime during 2009, or else 2010 will do just fine as well. I might learn something anyway from that help channel.
It's all freudian.
maybe that works because there's a constant stream or something; instead of going completely idle. But unfortunatly, alot of people can't even log in, so we can't even get to that point.

I dunno what happened, but now I can log in and play.. I'll let you know how long that lasts for.

Ok, I was able to play for about an hour before socket closed. But hey, I can play now. Let's see how long it lasts! :D
I really didn't do anything, it fixed itself or something.

I do remember doing this earlier today to try to make eve work (just remembered); although I doubt it's relevant.
I turned off audio, turned all my graphics on lowest, and tried to log in. I then tried again about 3-4 hours later, and it worked! Still does.

Well, after a few fun filled days of being able to play, I'm back to not being able to log in.
The socket (while playing) Sometimes closed every 5 minutes, and sometimes every hour or 2. I'm starting to think it's on my end, not CCP's...
